“Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their party.”

I don’t know if this is still the phrase used to calculate keyboard speed in computer classes, but it used to be what we learned to type on typewriters, both manual and electric.

Today it struck me that NOW is exactly the time for all good men (and women) to come to the aid of their party! No matter what side of the political fence you are on, now is the time to cast our ballots for the people of our choosing.

The privilege of voting is just that….a privilege.  Young or old, rich or poor, literate or illiterate, we each have the same privilege. No one gets 2 votes. We each get one. And that one vote is priceless. Wars have been fought over it. Lives have been sacrificed for it. People have been imprisoned; homes have been divided. All over the privilege of that one vote. Sharon Salzberg once said, “Voting is the expression of our commitment to ourselves, one another, this country, and this world.”

So, please don’t take your vote for granted. Please don’t think that YOUR vote doesn’t matter. It does matter. It matters for each one of us who call ourselves Americans.
